Youth Justice Intake Specialist

Face to Face Health and Counseling is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing economic and health equity for youth ages 11–24. We do this work through a comprehensive approach that includes housing, mental health, medical, youth justice, education & employment, and community services. We take a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to our work and center the needs of young people impacted by racism and other forms of oppression and marginalization. Founded in 1972, Face to Face serves more than 3,000 youth annually.   

 

JOB SUMMARY:   

Youth Justice Intake Specialist (YJIS) is responsible for conducting intakes to enroll youth and emerging adults (EAs) into the youth justice program for supportive cases management services at Face to Face’s downtown location, SafeZoneour day shelter for youth and emerging adults that are at-risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. This involves meeting with youth and emerging adults who either have, or are at risk of, criminal legal system involvement. YJIS will collect background information regarding criminal legal system risk and/or involvement, assess their immediate needs, and connect them to a dedicated youth justice case managerand collaborate with youth justice team to track progress of referrals from Ramsey County community partners. 

This position is part-time at 20 hours per week. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Conduct youth justice program enrollment intakes with youth, entering their information into our youth secured database (Apricot) quickly and accurately; 
  • Collaborate with youth justice team and community referring agencies to monitor case plan progress;
  • Connect new youth to services and supports available at Face to Face, particularly related to immediate needs;
  • Make internal referrals to onsite Coordinated Entry assessments with youth experiencing homelessness on an appointment and drop-in basis; 
  • Assist with other day-to-day tasks at SafeZone as needed; 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with youth serving programs internally and externally. 
  • Provide excellent customer service while conducting intakesutilizing a harm reduction and trauma-informed perspective. 
  • Provides all services guided by the evidence-based principles for helping youth overcome homelessness;
  • Engage with youth in a meaningful and respectful manner. 
  • Respond to crises and de-escalate situations in a calm and professional manner;
  • Collaborate with other staff and maintain teamwork style; and, 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School degree or equivalent required; 
  • B.A. in social services or equivalent education preferred; extensive experience in lieu of degree will be considered;
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with homeless, justice-involved, or otherwise under resourced youth; 
  • Ability to work independently, exercising good judgment and involving others when necessary; 
  • Experience with a positive youth development and harm reduction approach; 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; 
  • High reliability and integrity; 
  • Positive attitude and willingness to do what it takes to meet youth needs; 
  • Good crisis management skills and the ability to navigate stressful situations well; 
  • Knowledge of homelessness and its impact on youth; 
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds 
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize; and, 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to do data entry quickly and accurately.

LOCATION:  

Essential Onsite – This role requires the employee to be onsite during the second half of the workday.

PAY & BENEFITS:   

Pay for this position is between $24.00 - $26.00 per hour based on qualifications. Face to Face also offers benefits which include long-term disability, life insurance, 403b account (3% employer match), as well as generous PTO and 11 paid holidays.
